The Department of Economics has a long history, the former of which was the Teaching and Research Section of Economics founded in 1953. There are 12 full-time teachers in the department, including 6 professors (among whom 2 are doctoral supervisors), 3 associate professors and 3 lectures, and 75% of them are doctors. Through the efforts of several generations the Department of Economics has developed greatly in the principle construction, researches, and personnel training with distinctive characteristics and outstanding advantages. Now the Department has the right to take in graduates of Western Economics, National Economics, and Economic History, and undergraduates of economics. Economics for the undergraduates of the Department is the characteristic subject acknowledged by the Ministry of Education of China, and meanwhile it is a “Famous Subject” of Guangdong Province. The Department is an important base for economics research and personnel training.
